New Connection Road Between WCT and CICT

In a significant move to enhance operational efficiency at Colombo Harbour, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has announced plans to construct a new connection road linking the West Container Terminal (WCT) and the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT).

The new road aims to address the growing congestion caused by inter-terminal cargo transfers, which have been a challenge due to increased container volumes. By streamlining the movement of goods between the two terminals, the SLPA expects to significantly reduce traffic delays and improve overall port productivity.

According to SLPA officials, the road will be strategically designed to handle high-capacity container vehicles, ensuring a smoother and faster transfer process while minimizing disruptions to ongoing port operations.

The project, which is set to begin in the coming months, aligns with the government’s broader vision to position Colombo as a leading maritime hub in South Asia. It also reflects the SLPA’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and maintaining the port’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Stakeholders, including shipping companies and logistics operators, have welcomed the initiative, noting that it will not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to reducing fuel costs and environmental impact associated with prolonged traffic congestion.

The SLPA is expected to release further details regarding the timeline and funding for the project in the coming weeks.
