President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a virtual ceremony, unveiled two major infrastructure projects aimed at advancing Sri Lanka’s energy and agriculture sectors.
The collaborative initiatives include a solar power facility in Trincomalee, developed by India’s NTPC in partnership with the Ceylon Electricity Board. The plant will contribute renewable energy to Sri Lanka’s national grid, supporting the country’s shift towards sustainable power.
In Dambulla, a state-of-the-art agricultural warehouse was also inaugurated. This climate-controlled facility is expected to significantly strengthen the island’s agricultural logistics, reduce post-harvest losses, and offer greater stability to farmers.
“This is the largest agri-warehouse ever established in Sri Lanka—designed to directly benefit our farming communities,” Prime Minister Modi noted during the launch held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
The Dambulla warehouse project traces its roots back to 2019, when it was first proposed by then-opposition MP Harsha de Silva.
In addition to these projects, Sri Lanka and India signed multiple new agreements to deepen cooperation in sectors including healthcare, energy, and defense.
